Skullcaps make up a family of 200 species of flowering plants. The Chinese Skullcap or Baikal skullcap has the scientific name scutellaria baicalensis. It grows in China, Korea, Mongolia and in Eastern Russia and Siberia.

Chinese Skullcap has long been used in TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and it is one the 50 main herbs in TCM.
The roots are used and active ingredients extracted from it are baicalein and baicalin, wogonin, norwogonin, oroxylin A and beta-sitosterol. Collectively, wogonin, norwogonin and oroxylin A produce some anxiety reducing effects without any muscle-relaxing effects. Baicalein and baicalin produce anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory effects.
The Chinese Skullcap root extract is used in ioula for its ability to balance your skin tone and promote wound healing.
